Prevention Of Accidents
1. Wear shoes at all times. Shoes prevent jarring of the feet and ankles, especially in jumping events. They also prevent bee stings on the sole of the foot or cuts from broken glass etc.
2. Warm up before every event - both track and field. This is especially important in cold weather.
3. Never compete if you are suffering from an illness, such as a sore throat, tummy upset etc. or if you have recently had an injury.
4. Hurdles, high jump bags, shot put and discus are not toys. Undisciplined behaviour with these and other pieces of equipment can result in serious injury.
5. Stop and look both ways (traffic drill) before crossing the track to be sure that you don’t step in front of runners competing in a race.
6. Learn the right way to doing things by watching those who do things properly. If in doubt ask. This is especially important for those who wish to use a special technique such as the Fosbury Flop in high jump.
7. Make sure that the equipment is correctly placed, especially for hurdles and high jump. Jump bags should be repositioned between each jump if they move.
8. Do not walk in front of the Discus ring. Walk around behind the cage.
9. Whilst every effort is made to ensure that accidents do not occur, it is not possible to guarantee a 100% safety record. Please support us in following the strategies listed to help prevent accidents
10. If a child is involved in an accident , the Age Group Manager will notify the child’s parent or nominated carer and the first aid officer.
11. A first aid kit is kept in the canteen.
12. The Committee cannot guarantee a person with appropriate First Aid knowledge will always be available. Please ensure that the medical information section of the registration form is filled out in detail.
